Charlie Caftan - Aug 15th & 16th

Please read the entire class description before registering.
The Charlie Caftan will be your favorite summer staple. With multiple lengths, and three different views, this pattern provides plenty of versatility to make this dress again and again. This class is great for anyone who is confident using a sewing machine and has taken our Pattern Prep lecture class, or has sewn at least one garment before. If you have comfortably made a garment or two with cottons, this is the perfect garment for venturing out into different substrates.
"Nothing says summer elegance quite as well as a dramatic caftan. Get Caftan Body ready with Charlie, a fresh take on this warm weather staple."
Level: Confident Beginner
This is a good class for developing your skills as a confident beginner. If you know how to sew a straight line, can follow a seam allowance, and have recent experience using a sewing machine, you have the skills for this class. If you have not sewn a garment before, it is highly recommended you take Pattern Prep: What to Know Before You Sew, offered on Friday, August 14th from 5:30pm - 7pm. We will briefly review the use of the Bernette sewing machines in our sewing studio at the beginning of the class. You should come to class with your fabric laundered for best results, and you pattern pieces cut from your fabric in order to finish this garment in class.
Price: $115.00 - $135.00 (whether you need the pattern)
The cost of the class includes:
- 9 hours of instruction in a small group setting,
- Use of the sewing studio, classroom machines, and tools.
- A 20% discount on supplies required for this class.
Requirements:

The physical pattern for this class is sizes 0 to 20 (Full Bust measurements 31" to 46" and Hip measurements 33" to 48"). If you need the extended size pattern (Full Bust up to 60" and Hip up to 63"), pleases contact Laura at the shop to discuss options. This pattern can be made with light to medium weight wovens such as linen, chambray, tencel, linen, silk, chiffon, rayon challis, crepe de chine, batiste and voile, or quilting cottons. As this class is geared towards beginners, we suggest cottons! These fabrics can be purchased at the shop for 20% off!
All versions feature a deep V neckline, short dolman sleeves, inset center panel and roomy pockets. View A is modern and architectural with striking pleats beneath the bust. For a softer, more romantic dress, Views B & C feature a gently gathered bodice with an optional waist tie for a figure-skimming silhouette in two skirt lengths. You may also choose between a dramatically wide sleeve or one slightly higher cut for more coverage. Depending on which View, Fabric, and Size is chosen, attendees may need anywhere from 1.75 yds (View A, Size 0, 58" wide fabric) to 3.5 yds (View C, Size 32, 45" wide Fabric).
Students will need to have their View decided, and their fabric picked out and brought to class laundered for best results. The fabric can be purchased at the shop for a 20% discount. This pattern requires 2.25 5 to 4 yards of light to medium weight woven fabric, depending on size, view, and width of fabric purchased.
